Use of Jatropha multifida L latex in the treatment of chronic leg ulcer

Abstract

Chronic leg ulcers are lesions produced by different causes, up to 90% correspond to venous insufficiency, but in many patients there are overlapping etiologies. The use of medicinal plants in the treatment of this pathology based on popular knowledge is a fairly common practice. Jatropha multifida latex is used in many countries and also in Cuba. Showing graphic evidence of its antibiotic and healing properties was the objective of our work. We present a case of chronic leg ulcer with an evolution of more than 10 months. It is treated with the latex of the plant, achieving its cure in only 42 days with minimal adverse events, which demonstrates the efficacy and safety.
